The serious pollution level in India has caused many carmakers to resort to cleaner alternative fuels as the power source for their vehicles. Thanks to its cleaner nature and lower emission than those of traditional fuels such as petrol and diesel, CNG has become one of the most popular fuels chosen by car makers as a method to reduce pollution. While hybrid electric cars are also strongly encouraged in India, many CNG cars are available in the country as well with quite a few upcoming CNG models being slated for launch in the near future. Here is a list of all available factory-fitted CNG cars in India with details:

Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Magna CNG

  • Expected price: INR 6.46 lakh

The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Magna CNG is one of the most long-awaited CNG-powered cars and is projected to be launched this year. Hyundai cars are well-known for their power and impressive performance, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Magna CNG is not an exception.

The vehicle will receive its power from a Kappa VTVT gasoline burner, which can deliver a maximum power of 81.86 BHP against 116 Nm. The engine will be coupled with a 5-speed MT unit and comes with an FWD system. The car will have a 37-litre CNG tank and can reach a top speed of 165 kmph.

Being the top-selling Maruti compact hatchback, the Alto 800 LXI Opt CNG is a powerful CNG-powered car which has an impressive fuel mileage of up to 33.0 kmpl, which makes it the most fuel-efficient car in its segment. The vehicle is powered by an F8D petrol motor which can produce 47.3 BHP against 69 Nm.

Hyundai Santro

  • Price: INR 6.43 lakh

Since the Hyundai Santro was launched, the hatchback has recorded an excellent sales number in the Indian auto market and today, the facelifted model remains to be a popular choice in the hatchback segment, thanks to its sportier exterior design and numerous additional features including power seats, power windows and a cutting-edge infotainment system.

The CNG variant of the Hyundai Santro is powered by a 1.1-litre motor which can produce 58 BHP against 84.33 Nm and is paired with a 5-speed MT. The hatchback is one of the most fuel-efficient cars in its segment with an ARAI-rated fuel mileage of 30.48 kmpl

Having a 45-litre tank, the Ertiga has a fuel mileage of 26.2 kmpl, which helps it become one of the most fuel-efficient CNG-powered MPVs in India.

Maruti S-Presso

Price: Rs 3.70 – 5.13 lakh

The next model in the list of best factory-fitted CNG car in India is the youngest player of the lot – the Maruti S-Presso. While being the late comer to the party, the Maruti S-Presso still cements a firm establishment for itself in its segment and manages to make it to the top-selling car of India each month. Maruti Suzuki gives the entry-level SUV-inspired hatchback car a CNG variant that serves as an alternate fuel system. With a 1.0-litre petrol engine that’s capable of generating 67 HP and 90 Nm of torque, the Maruti S-Presso mileage figure impressively stands at 31.2 km/kg in the CNG mode. Currently, the Maruti S-Presso is one sale within the price range of around Rs 3.70 – 5.13 lakh, in which the CNG variants go on sale in-between Rs 4.83 – 5.13 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).

Unlike the S-Presso, the Maruti Wagon R is a long-standing vehicle that has scores very high in the popularity stakes. In its latest version, the Maruti Wagon R comes with a 1.0-litre petrol mill developing 58 HP and 78 Nm of torque that is also available in CNG version. In CNG guise, the fuel efficiency figure of the Maruti Wagon R is decently rated at 32.52 km/kg and the fuel capacity is 60 litres.

Maruti Celerio

Price: Rs 4.41 - 5.68 lakh

Following the tallboy sibling, the Maruti Celerio is also among the best company-fitted CNG cars of India. Like the earlier cars, there’s still a 1.0-litre gasoline burner good for 58 HP/ 78 Nm that comes paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The ARAI-rated mileage figure of the Celerio CNG is at 30.47 km/kg and the fuel capacity is at 60 litres.

While Maruti Suzuki seems to dominate the list of best factory-fitted CNG cars in the Indian space, the Hyundai Aura is a non-Maruti model to be named. Apart from the 1.2-litre petrol & diesel and a 1.0-litre turbo GDI engine, the Hyundai Aura comes with a 1.2-litre bi-fuel (petrol with CNG) engine option. This mill is capable of generating 68 HP of max power and 95 Nm of peak torque and is available with a 5-speed manual transmission. In terms of mileage figure, the Hyundai Aura CNG achieves a healthy mileage of 28 km/kg. The fuel tank capacity of the car is 65 litres.
