Check out the discount available on Nexa cars during May 2020, along with an analysis of similar incentives available at the same time during last year
The Indian auto market is going through an extremely rough phase right now. There was a sales slump already in place since last year, and with the additional burden of a nationwide lockdown, vehicle sales have been struggling to maintain itself. In fact, in April 2020, ‘zero’ cars were sold in India. Thankfully, things seem to be returning to normal, albeit slowly. To attract customers, automakers are offering some significant discounts and sweet deals. Nexa, Maruti Suzuki’s premium dealership network, is also among them.
Here, we take a look at what discounts are available and how they differ from the ones provided last year.
The Ignis is Maruti Suzuki’s version of a ‘premium’ crossover hatchback. Marketed as a compact urban SUV, its relatively muscular design surely captures a lot of attention from onlookers. Sadly, the car was never as successful as its other siblings, like Swift and Alto. In May last year, Maruti had provided incentives worth a total of Rs. 30,000 in the Ignis. This year, the incentives have increased to Rs. 35,000. Considering that the facelift version was introduced just earlier this year, the discounts do seem a little dramatic.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno is the most successful premium hatchback in India, beating rivals like Hyundai i20 and Honda Jazz, both of which had been on sale since much earlier. In January 2019, the facelift model was introduced in India. It is, therefore, understandable that there wouldn’t be many offers on the car in May 2019, amounting to a total of Rs. 10,000. Currently, the car is being offered with much better deals, totalling up to a value of Rs. 35,000.
The only sedan offering in Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa line-up, the Ciaz is the successor the brilliant (but not so popular) SX4. In 2018, it’s 1.4-litre petrol motor was replaced by a 1.5-litre one, which offered more power. A mild-hybrid system was also introduced. By May 2019, Maruti was offering incentives worth Rs. 40,000 on the Ciaz. A year later, and we now have lesser deals and discounts on this Maruti, only up to a maximum of Rs. 30,000!
Maruti’s premium MPV, the XL6, was launched in India in August 2019. Thus, there were no discounts on it during May 2019. During May 2020, Maruti Suzuki has ongoing offers worth only Rs. 10,000 on the XL6.
Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is perhaps the least-popular car in the company’s line-up in India. As such, the company has almost always provided good deals and incentives on the car. During May 2019, you could have bought an S-Cross with Rs. 45,000 worth of benefits. In May 2020, there are no such offers available, as the car is currently temporarily discontinued, post the BS6 deadline. We expect its newer model to launch soon though with a BS6-compliant petrol engine.
