Toyota will soon launch the Urban Cruiser, which will be a rebadged Maruti Vitara Brezza. However, they will be different form each other at least in some respects.
Compact SUVs have come a long way in terms of their design, driving experience, and the features they offer. Therefore, the crown for the best-selling compact SUV has started to move away from the Maruti Vitara Brezza to the Hyundai Venue. But, if you think, the reason behind this shuffle is the way Brezza looks, then get ready for a much more stylish Vitara Brezza. Toyota is developing its own iteration of the Vitara Brezza and it will be called Urban Cruiser. Like Maruti played smartly with the inclusion of 'Vitara' moniker in the name of its compact SUV, Toyota will do it with the ‘Cruiser’ suffix. However, under the skin, it will be a Maruti Vitara Brezza only. So, let’s see how these two can differ from each other.
Let's start right away from the way these cars will look in comparison to each other. The Maruti Vitara Brezza has recently received a mid-life refresh. However, it certainly hasn't got no drastic cosmetic change to speak of. On the front, it gets an S-Presso like front grille sitting in between the stylish new LED headlamps which feature dual LED projectors with bi-functional LED DRLs. On the rear, the tail lamps are new and are stylish LED units. Also, there is a new scuff plate design on the lower-end of the front bumper. Indeed, it continues to be a Vitara Brezza from every angle.

Talking of the Toyota Urban Cruiser, it will borrow some design cues from the same car it borrows the suffix in its name from. The front facet will see a lot of design elements inspired by the bigger Toyotas. Chances are there would be a chunky grille, high-set fog lamps with connected housing, and also a bold scuff plate. The side profile will see the addition of new design alloy wheels and roof rails, while rest everything will be kept as is on the Brezza. The rear facet will sport the new logo. Also, different tail lamps, bumper, and new creases on the tailgate are expected.
With the facelift, Vitara Brezza has gained itself a fresher appeal.
Toyota Urban Cruiser will get same interior as the Vitara Brezza.
Inside, the Maruti Vitara Brezza continues with the same old dashboard layout with not much of a change. It is expected to be carried over to the Toyota Urban Cruiser as well. However, expect the Urban Cruiser to come loaded to the gills. Toyota might not have LXI- and VXI-equivalent trims for the Urban Cruiser. This is not a new practice, as Toyota has followed it with the Glanza as well.
Under the hood, there would be no changes. Brezza is currently offered with a 1.5L K15B engine that belts out a peak power output of 105 PS and a max. torque of 138 Nm. It is offered with 2 transmission options – 5-speed MT and 4-speed AT. The Urban Cruiser will get the same motor as the Vitara Brezza. Maruti is developing a SHVS version for the manual variants of the car through which Maruti will be able to extract higher fuel economy numbers. The same powertrain will be on offer on the Toyota Urban Cruiser.
Currently, prices of the Maruti Vitara Brezza start as Rs. 7.34 lakh and go all the way up to Rs. 11.40 lakh. Since Toyota would be giving a miss to the entry-level variants of the Brezza, expect the prices to start around Rs. 9.00 lakh.
