Hyundai Creta, Venue, & Tucson Collectively Register Sales of Over 1.8 Lakh Units

Hyundai's SUVs were the company's biggest sellers as the company posted record figures for December 2020. The all-new Creta is back to the top of the compact SUV charts as well.

2020 wasn’t the greatest of years as the Covid-19 global pandemic and the ensuing lockdown put a halt to everything, resulting in a big hit to the global economy. But as the year went on and lockdowns were relaxed, businesses starting rebounding with the Indian auto market one of them. India’s second-largest carmaker Hyundai ended the year on a high with an almost 25% increase in YoY sales for 2020. Its domestic sales figures of 47,400 units are the highest ever figures for the brand during the month of December. The Korean automaker sold 66,750 units, including exports, resulting in YoY growth of over 33%. Also, by producing 71,178 units, Hyundai registered the highest ever single month production numbers since its inception.

Hyundai’s December 2020 milestones don’t only end there. Its SUV lineup of the new Creta, Venue, and the Tucson was the company’s best performers. Hyundai sold a total of 423,642 units in India alone during 2020, and over 180,000 of that number being made up by the SUVs. With total sales standing at 522,542 units, Hyundai became the fourth largest auto exporter from India after shipping 98,900 units. Hyundai India’s MD and CEO S.S. Kim stated that he is cautiously optimistic about the future and anticipate signs of market recovery in 2021.

Hyundai launched the second-generation of its hugely successful Creta in India right after Auto Expo 2020 and is currently the highest-selling compact SUV. It comes with a fresh design and all-new features, which helped it go back to the top of its segment, which has been growing rapidly with the likes of the MG Hector and Kia Seltos launching in recent times as well. Both of them are very compelling products and rivals, but the new-gen Creta gets a few things which its rivals don’t get.

The Hyundai Creta gets 4 engines on offer – 3 petrol and 1 diesel. You get a 1.5-litre petrol making which makes 114 PS/144 Nm of max power and torque figures, the other slightly larger 1.5-litre makes the same figures as well. The range-topping 1.4-litre turbo petrol churns out 138 PS/242 Nm of peak power and torque. Meanwhile, the Diesel is a 1.5-litre four-pot which puts out max power and torque figures of 114 PS/250 Nm respectively and all the engines can be mated to a manual or an automatic transmission. Prices for the Creta ranges between Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 17.31 lakh, ex-showroom.
