The Kia Sonet is one of the newest entrants in the crowded and competitive compact SUV segment and is probably one of the best. Today we have an acceleration test between the diesel automatic and turbo-petrol iMT trim of the Sonet.

The Kia Sonet was the third offering from the Korean automaker in the Indian market, and after the success of the Seltos, expectations were high from the compact SUV. It has proved to be another successful product for the company, having over 50,000 bookings within 2 months of its launch in September 2020. The compact SUV segment is one of the fastest-growing and highly competitive segments in India, and the Sonet competes with the likes of the Hyundai Venue and the New Nissan Magnite. The Sonet offers powerful engines, feature-loaded variants, and a modern design language which helps it stand out in the segment. To find out, which automatic trim of the Sonet is quicker off the line, we did an acceleration test between the Kia Sonet Diesel AT vs the Turbo-Petrol IMT variants.

As you can see in the video above, it is a 0-100 kmph acceleration test between the two Kia Sonet models. Both these vehicles were tested in the same controlled conditions. Both the Sonets were given three runs each to get the best possible times. For the first run, the Sonet diesel does 0-100 kmph in 12.12 seconds compared to the turbo-petrol’s 13.18 seconds. Second time around, the diesel reached 100 kmph in 12.25 seconds, the turbo-petrol taking 13.12 seconds for the same. Both vehicles post their fastest 0-100 kmph times in the third and final run with the diesel taking 12.03 seconds while the turbo-petrol takes 13.09 seconds. Over the three runs, the turbo-petrol was on average 1 second slower than the oil-burner. This is expected as the diesel makes much more torque which gives it better acceleration off the line, and maintains the lead to the 100 kmph mark.
