The Maruti 800 is quite possibly the most important car to have launched in Indian automotive history. Now discontinued, it is still beloved and today we got this flame-throwing render of the Maruti 800.

The Maruti 800 ushered in a new era in the Indian automotive market when it first launched in 1983. It is correctly hailed as the Indian version of the Ford Model T, Volkswagen Beetle or the Mini Cooper, as it made purchasing a car an easier task for a lot more people than before. Before the 800 dropped in the Indian auto market and pushed it to the then-current times, India was still back in the ’50s with the HM Ambassador and Premier Padmini. Such was the dominance of the 800 that it was the best-selling car in the country for 21 years straight, only being usurped by its successor, the Maruti Alto. Although the 800 has been discontinued for a while, it still remains a favourite among the modifying and aftermarket community in India. Today we came across this particular render of a Maruti 800.

Dubbed The 'Overkiller', This Maruti 800 Render Has Got For A Flame Throwing Overhaul

The render has been uploaded by zephyr_designz on Instagram, and the artist imagines the humble Maruti 800 as a fire-spitting beast. Dubbed the ‘Overkiller’, you will notice without much looking that this 800 gets a rear-mounted engine instead of the regular front one. The rear bumper had to be removed to house the engine, and it looks like the rear seats are gone as well. The rear boot lid has been chopped to make for dual radiator fans to keep that engine cool. No details on the engine, but looks like a JDM spec twin-turbo V6 to me, what do you think?

The render isn’t only done with a rear-mounted engine, as this Maruti 800 gets a few tasty exterior add-ons as well. There’s a new body kit with large wheel arch extensions which have been squared of as well. The extensions are needed as it gets much wider deep-dish alloys wrapped in semi-slick tyres. The top of the boot lid gets a huge double-deck spoiler while the tail lamps have got the full-LED treatment. There are no interior pictures, but you will notice the rear cross-brace for maybe a roll cage through the rear windshield. Overall, this is one of the most outlandish renders, and you'll need really deep pockets to bring this to reality.

Over its lifespan of 31 years, the regular Maruti 800 went through a myriad of powertrain choices.  As its name suggested, it came with an 800cc 3-cylinder petrol engine during the whole span of its production. The 800 got updated to an MPFI version in the late ’90s which was the last big change of the model. Gone was the carburettor and in came fuel injection to meet stricter emission norms. The updated engine made peak power and torque figures of 38 PS/59 Nm respectively and was mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox.
