Downsized turbo-petrol engines are the new trend in the premium hatchback segment. To follow this suite, Tata Motors will soon be launching the Altroz iTurbo with a 1.2L turbo-petrol motor in the Indian market. This motor comes from the Nexon’s hood, but in a de-tuned avatar, producing 110 PS of peak power and 140 Nm of max torque. But how fast is the Tata Altroz iTurbo to the 100 kmph mark from a standstill in comparison to the Hyundai i20’s Turbo variant? Well, we have a video that packs in the answer to this question. Since the Hyundai i20’s Turbo variant is offered with a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT only, we thought of choosing the latter.

Thus, the i20 had a lead over the Altroz iTurbo with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Moreover, the i20’s 1.0L 3-pot turbo-petrol unit puts out 120 PS of peak power and 172 Nm of max torque. Moving over to the testing ground, a total of three attempts were made to attain correct results. In the first attempt, the Altroz iTurbo took 11.23 seconds to reach the 100 kmph mark, while the i20 did so in just 11.15 seconds. In the second attempt, the figures dropped down to 11.00 seconds for the Altroz iTurbo and 11.12 seconds for the Hyundai i20. The third and final attempt had the lowest figures of all the attempts. The Altroz iTurbo managed to do the 0-100 kmph run in just 10.83 seconds, and the i20 followed it with a 0-100 kmph timing of 11.00 seconds.

With these figures, it is evident that the Tata Altroz iTurbo is faster than the Hyundai i20 Turbo. While the Altroz is a little heavier than the i20, it managed to be a quicker car in the test runs. However, it is the Tata Altroz iTurbo that had a lighter driver on the seat. Also, this test run was conducted with Sports mode activated on the Tata Altroz iTurbo. The difference between the 0-100 kmph timing of these cars is very minute and can be ignored with ease. Talking of the prices, Tata Motors is yet to disclose the price list of the Altroz iTurbo. The Hyundai i20 Turbo, however, starts at Rs. 8.79 lakh.
