Check out this video showing a new Tata Harrier competes against a costlier BMW X1 in a drag race.

People say that it’s unfair. A competition between the Tata Harrier and a costlier BMW X1 shouldn't be a true competition. But are races always equal? There are many kinds of drag races out there and we’ve reported you another “unfair” drag race between a Tata Harrier and a Hyundai Verna of sorts.

Back to our game today, the Harrier is one of the most popular comfy five-seater SUV of India though, it’s not specially built for performance. Also in the price range, the Harrier can’t match the BMW X1 whose price is almost double that of the former, same as the premium quality. However, some still want to know how the Harrier competes with the pricy BMW X1 in the straight lines. If having a little interest in it, let’s see how the Harrier fares against the X1 in the drag race below.

We are watching a drag race between a pre-facelift Harrier featuring 2.0 diesel with a 2.0-litre petrol-powered BMW X1. Yes, you read that right. A petrol vs a diesel. On the specs sheet, the pre-facelift Harrier with a 2.0-litre diesel engine can produce 170 PS/ 350 Nm of torque. However, this Harrier is said to churn out about 140 PS instead. The X1, in the meantime, develops a maximum power of 190 PS along with 400 Nm of peak torque. Both SUVs come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as a standard option. Tata Harrier looks quite humble compared with the X1 on paper. Even if we have the BS6-compliant Tata Harrier here, it couldn’t make a major difference.

As you can see in the video, the Harrier gets off the line pretty well and manages to stay ahead of the competition for a rough 20 – 30 seconds. While both cars are in the second gear, the Harrier still takes the lead but for a small difference.

When the SUVs are on their third gear, the BMW X1 overtakes the Harrier in a blink and leaves the Tata behind by a huge distance. The game doesn’t change much and the winner of the drag race is BMW X1. The result is understandable as the BMW X1 has been known as a luxury drive that offers excellent handling prowess.

As for the Tata Harrier, the latest avatar of the SUV has just been introduced in India for a couple of months. The 2020 Harrier comes with a single 2.0-litre Kryotec turbo-diesel engine that belts out 170 PS of max power and 350 Nm of torque. Transmission duty is under control of either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT option.

As confirmed by the home-grown carmaker, the Tata Harrier Petrol is under development and will hit the market by the end of 2020. Currently, the Tata Harrier is priced at around Rs 13.69 Lakh – 20.25 Lakh while the BMW X1 is standing in between Rs 35.9 – 42.9 Lakh (all prices are ex-showroom).

There’s something we need to point out here. The drag racing between Tata Harrier and BMW X1 was conducted on the public roads, which is totally illegal and irresponsible of the drivers to do so. We humbly request our dear readers not to conduct these kinds of activities like that at any cost.
