Read on to discover the list of upcoming cars under 50 lakhs in India that includes models like MG Gloster, Citroen C5 Aircross, Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan and more.
1. Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan
Turbocharged Petrol, 1.5L Turbocharged Diesel
7-Speed Dual-Clutch Automatic
Since Mercedes-Benz has been the largest-selling premium car brand in the Indian market, it’s quite a pleasure that the Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan will be launched in India in late this year. For the uninitiated, the LWB version of the A-Class Sedan has been a resounding success of the brand in the Chinese market, we expect the same will go for the Indian-spec model, as long as it’s equipped and priced well in our country.
What we don’t know is that if we get the special LWB variant of the A-Class from China or the standard model. However, given the roaring success of the LWB model in China, we bet on that variant to make it into our country.
The upcoming Mercedes-Benz A-Class will be powered by BS6-compliant, 1330 cc turbo-petrol engine, developing 163 PS of power and 250 Nm of peak torque and comes mated to a 7-speed DCT option. There’s are also a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre turbo-diesel unit that makes 116 PS of power and 260 Nm of peak torque. The oil burner comes coupled with a 7-speed automatic transmission. Once launched, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan will take on the likes of BMW 1-Series or Audi A3 in India.
The list of upcoming cars under 50 lakh in India continues with the Audi Q3 which is slated for the launch in around October 2020. When it comes to the SUVs from Audi, the Q3 is quite a popular nameplate. We expect that the new-gen Q3 will have a lot more to bring in the table upon its official launch. While the design of the new Q3 is quite identical to the previous-gen model, the all-new SUV will be bigger than the outgoing car by quite a margin.
The refreshed Q3 will measure 4,485 mm long, 1,849 mm wide and 1,585 mm high, along with the wheelbase of 2,680 mm. It carries on using the large and hexagonal front grille that features vertical chrome stripes. The LED tail lamps have been tweaked a bit to get a Lamborghini look at the back.
Powering the upcoming Audi Q3 2020 will be a 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbo-petrol engine that generates 228 PS of power and 258 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission combined with an All-wheel-drive system. On the inside, the Audi Q3 2020 will be loaded with premium features like 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, auto climate control, a premium audio system to name a few.
3. Volkswagen Passat 2020
2.0L Turbocharged Petrol
Volkswagen is considering reintroducing one of its flagship sedan, the Passat in the Indian market. Though not doing well in terms of sales in the new car market, VW is still an auto company that delivers the most reliable cars in the Indian space. The 2020 VW Passat is looked to follow that pathway.
As for a VW car, the upcoming Passat looks quite sleek on the outside with a sharp front grille with chrome accents, muscular bonnet, rectangular LED headlamps and angular tail lamps. The VW Passat comes with a spacious and comfortable cabin, in line with most of the brand’s vehicles. The upcoming VW car will bring in a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 174 PS of power and 206 Nm of torque under its skin, paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission that offers the front-wheel-drive capabilities. The expected price of the VW Passat 2020 will be at around Rs 34 – 35 lakh. If it’s to be believed, the VW Passat will be one of the hot car launches among the upcoming cars under 50 lakhs in India in 2020-21.
PSA Group is all set to enter our market with its Citroen brand, be it the Citroen C5 Aircross coming as the very first Citroen car in India. Bound to be launched in India in late 2020 at the beginning, the launch of the Citroen C5 Aircross has been pushed to January – March 2021 due to the global coronavirus pandemic and country-wide lockdown.
Sources suggest that the Citroen C5 Aircross will be locally assembled in India, with the price starting from Rs 30 lakh onwards (estimated, ex-showroom). The upcoming SUV will be sold in a single trim and looked to come with features like an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, split-LED headlamps with DRLs, panoramic sunroof among others. Under the hood of the Citroen C5 Aircross sits a 2.0-litre diesel engine tuned to produce 180 HP of power that comes linked with an 8-speed torque converter automatic option.
Citroen is not planning to sell the all-new C5 Aircross SUV in larger numbers in the Indian market. Instead, it is said that the French company will bet big on its forthcoming made-in-India products from the C-Cubed programme that includes the C21 compact SUV or the CC21 hatchback. With a Rs 30 lakh price point, the Citroen C5 Aircros is one of the upcoming cars in India under 50 lakhs.

8-Speed ZF Automatic

7. Mercedes-Benz GLA 2020
2.0L 4-Cylinder Turbocharged Petrol
7-Speed DCT Automatic
The smallest crossover from Mercedes, the GLA 2020 is destined to hit the premium car segment in India by storm in later this year. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA is designed to look sportier and perform better on the drive. It comes with shorter overhangs, aggressive 18-inch wheels and raked windshield at the front. The oversized Mercedes-Benz branding makes the front grille look a bit smaller but it’s not something that depreciates the GLA’s overall look.
Under the hood of the GLA 2020 lies a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine tuned to make 208 PS of max power and 258 Nm of peak torque. Mated to this engine will be a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). Since the German carmaker always prioritizes safety in Mercedes cars, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLA 2020 is fitted with a range of advanced safety kits like airbags for the front and rear, ABS with EBD, traction control, child safety locks, parking cameras, stability controls among many others.
Currently, the Mercedes-Benz GLA is priced between Rs 32 – 41 lakh (ex-showroom). We expect the new GLA to require a slightly higher price bracket due to the changes and updates involved. Still, the Mercedes-Benz GLA 2020 sits among the upcoming cars below Rs 50 lakh in India in 2020.
8. Skoda Octavia 2020
1.5L Petrol, 2.0L Diesel
6-Speed Manual, 7-Speed DSG
The upcoming Skoda Octavia was initially slated for an October 2020 launch which has been now pushed to early 2021 because of the COVID-19 impact. All that mean the Skoda’s key product, Octavia will be missing for the rest of the year since the older-gen sedan was not upgraded to meet the stringent BS6 standards.
The fourth-gen Octavia will arrive here in January next year and bring a lot in the table when it comes to performance, durability and usability. The upcoming sedan car will sport a myriad of features both on the outside and inside its plush interior, namely a large touchscreen for the infotainment, a digital dashboard, three-zone climate control among more.
Powering the Skoda Octavia 2020 will be a combo of 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine together with a 2.0-litre diesel unit. Both the mills can be had with either a 6-speed MT or a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission as an option.

Given the Czech carmaker’s plan to sell petrol-powered BS6 cars in India only, the all-new Skoda Kodiaq will be packed with a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine option under the bonnet, the same also powers the Superb facelift in India. The mill is expected to churn out 190 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque and come paired with a standard 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.
Kia is eyeing on the premium sedan segment of India, thus preparing for the introduction of the new Stinger in the market. However, one looking for a premium Kia sedan will have to wait a bit as the all-new Kia Stinger is set to hit the country in the first half of 2021 and with the current situation, we’re not sure if the official launch date of the Kia Stinger would be delayed or not.
The Kia Stinger is promised to be an aggressive car. It looks sharp on the design and powerful on the mechanical package. Powering the new Stinger will be a 2.0-litre gasoline burner good for 247 PS of power and 353 Nm of peak torque. The performance-spec GT variant, on the other hand, will come with a bigger 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 engine making a mighty power and torque of 370 PS and 510 Nm, respectively. Besides, the Kia Stinger can be had with diesel engine option as well, in the form of a 2.2-litre diesel engine set to produce 200 PS/ 440 Nm of peak torque. All the engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. Expect Kia to price the Stinger at around Rs 50 lakh mark, thereby making it the best cars under 50 lakh in India in 2020-21.

2.0L Petrol, 2.0L Diesel

Transmission duties will be carried over by either a 6-speed MT or a 7-step S-Tronic dual-clutch automatic gearbox, depending on the variant. While the previous iteration of the MG G10 didn’t make it to our shores, the Chinese-owned British brand has announced that the new version of the G10 will be launched in India in 2021.
The Toyota Innova Crysta rival will be powered by two engines – including a 163 PS/ 375 Nm 2.0-litre diesel and a 224 PS/345 Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit. The MG G10 will be available with both manual and automatic transmission. The interior of the upcoming MG car will be equipped with a number of comfort features including a power sunroof and a moon roof, a large HD touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, multi-zone climate control, a 6-speaker sound system to name some highlighting equipment.
13. Volkswagen Tiguan 2021
1.5L TSI Turbo-Petrol
While the previous generation of the VW Tiguan has been discontinued by the German carmaker for quite a time back, the company has revealed its plan to re-introduce the Tiguan in its facelifted version sometime next year.
In comparison with the older VW Tiguan, the facelifted SUV will feature a new bumper with a larger air dam at the front. The grille is expected to get a tweak as well while the LED headlamps and DRLs might be refreshed as well. Under the bonnet, the new upcoming VW Tiguan will be powered by a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine that develops 150 PS of max power. The Volkswagen Tiguan 2021 is expected to be positioned within the Rs 25 lakh mark so it is one of the upcoming cars under 50 lakhs rupees in the Indian space next year.
