Upcoming Electric SUVs In India 2021 - XUV300 Electric & More

The Indian market is set to welcome a slew of upcoming electric cars and many of which are slotted into the red-hot SUV segment. Here’s a list of upcoming electric SUVs in India in 2021 with the most excited electric SUVs in the pipeline.

The Indian market is set to welcome a slew of upcoming electric cars and many of which are slotted into the red-hot SUV segment. Here’s a list of upcoming electric SUVs in India in 2021 with the most excited electric SUVs in the pipeline.

1. Mahindra XUV300 Electric

Mahindra has showcased the XUV300 Electric at the Auto Expo 2020 and the upcoming electric SUV is expected to go on sale officially at the end of 2021. The eXUV300 will be rivalling the best-selling Tata Nexon EV in the competition.

Reports revealed that the Mahindra XUV300 Electric will have a range of 375 km (long-range version) on a single charge. The standard variant of the electric XUV300 offers a range of around 200 km. As for the looks, the Mahindra XUV300 Electric SUV will be slightly different from the ICE counterpart, despite sharing the same dimensions and body with the regular car. Mahindra’s upcoming electric SUV is expected to be positioned at around Rs 15 – 18 lakh. Also, it’s expected to be the first made-in-India EV to be exported to the global market.

2. Volvo XC40 Recharge

Initially, the Volvo XC40 was introduced in India with a regular diesel motor under the hood. The petrol engine was then dropped off and replaced by a petrol engine after a period. Now, we are all set to see the XC40 in its third avatar this year and this car will be fully electric.

Named the XC40 Recharge, the car will be the Sweden carmaker’s first upcoming electric SUV in India. The Volvo XC40 Recharge will be powered by two electric motors that produce 402 horsepower. There will be a 78 kWh battery on offer. The Volvo XC40 Recharge is claimed to go from 0 to 100 kmph in around 5 seconds.

From a visual standpoint, the Volvo XC40 Recharge will look similar to the petrol-powered variant. The upcoming compact SUV will come with Google Assistant and OTA updates.

3. Audi E-Tron

Audi E-Tron is the next upcoming electric SUV that will be launched in India soon. The Audi E-Tron is the first all-electric SUV of the German company. Despite being an electric car, the Audi E-Tron stays in line with other cars in the family when it comes to the styling design.

The LED sharp-looking headlamps with the massive grille at the front and the connected taillights at the rear will be the major visual highlights of the EV. The electric SUV will get power from two electric motors with the support of an all-wheel-drive system. There’ll be an Audi E-Tron S that will receive an additional motor and acquire the top speed of 210 kmph.

The interior of the Audi E-Tron will be loaded to the gills with features including three digital screens, connected car tech, surround-view cameras, adaptive cruise control, air suspension and more.

4. 2021 Hyundai Kona Electric

Hyundai will launch the 2021 Kona Electric in India this year. The 2021 iteration of the Kona EV will come with some visual updates that include a refreshed front grille, new headlamps and taillamps, giving the Kona Electric a more mature look. Reports revealed that the 2021 Hyundai Kona Electric will be 40 mm longer than the preceding version.

Currently, the basic version of the Hyundai Kona will be powered by a 39.2 kWh battery and generates 136 PS of power. The long-range version of the electric SUV in India gets a 64 kWh battery delivering 204 PS of power and 395 Nm of torque. We do expect the 2021 Hyundai Kona Electric will get some electrical overhaul for better performance.

5. Renault Kwid Electric

The speculated launch of the Renault Kwid EV is in 2021 so it is one of the much-awaited upcoming electric cars in India. The Kwid Electric will be the first purely electric vehicle from the French automaker in the Indian space. Sold in the Chinese market as the K-ZE, the Renault Kwid Electric is propelled by a 26.8 kWh battery pack that is capable of offering a driving range of 270 km on a single charge.

6. Mahindra eKUV100

The last model in the list of upcoming electric SUVs in India is the Mahindra eKUV100. This one had its first showcase at the 2020 Auto Expo last year as the electric sibling of the regular KUV100. It shares the DNA with the IC engine-powered model but has some revisions at the front grille and bumper. The upcoming electric car will come with a 40 kW electric motor that can develop 54 HP of power and 120 Nm of torque. It is claimed that the Mahindra eKUV100 can have a range of 150 km per single charge. The expected price of the Mahindra eKUV100 is at around Rs 8.2 Lakh (ex-showroom).

These are the upcoming electric SUVs that are believed to hit India this year. While there’s not much response for EVs in India at this moment, it is expected to be the future of mobility. With the rising heat towards SUV cars in India and Government’s push for electric vehicles, we do expect that these electric SUVs will be the big hit in times to come.
