Take a look at this video, where the all-new Mahindra Thar can be seen traversing the Urumbikkara trail.

The Mahindra Thar is now sold in its 2nd-gen avatar. The new model looks modern in comparison to the last-gen Thar. Interestingly, with the new looks and tech-packed interior, it continues to carry the legacy of its forefathers which are considered as the most capable set of wheels for off-roading. According to the carmaker, the new Thar is even better at traversing the un-mapped patches. To find support to this claim, we came across a YouTube video from the channel of Sanchari Doctor. In the video, the host can be seen taking his new-gen Thar to Urumbikarra, which is considered as one of the most difficult and treacherous trails of the southern part of India.

Sadly, the host shares his experience in his regional language. Thus, we could not understand a lot from what he said in the video, but it is easy to make out that new-gen Thar was capable of making its way through almost no roads. The trail that host is driving on comprises of boulders, washed-away shoulders, loose rocks and more. At a later stage, the trail shrinks down in terms of its width, making it a difficult climb.

The Mahindra Thar that host is using is the top-spec LX trim of the off-roader. It comes loaded with all the bells and whistles that are required to excel in such situations. It comes with a BorgWarner transfer case with low-ratio gearbox, mechanically-locking rear differential, and the brake-locking front axle. The Thar is available with two powertrain options – 2.0L mStallion turbo-petrol and 2.2L mHawk turbo-diesel. The oil burner is rated to put out 150 HP/320 Nm of peak output, while the diesel engine can develop 130 HP/300 Nm. The transmission choices on the new-gen Thar include a 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT.
