Check out our comparison of the VXi and ZXi trims of the Maruti Ertiga to know which one makes more sense to buy.

1. Maruti Ertiga VXi vs ZXi Introduction

Maruti Ertiga is one of the most popular MPVs in India, a surprising feat considering how recent the Maruti product is. In fact, new players like Ertiga and Renault Triber have managed to gain a lot of popularity in our market. The primary reason for the popularity of Maruti’s MPV is because of its extremely affordable price tag. Of course, Maruti service centres availability helps, and so does the service cost. In a product that primarily focuses on being affordable, cost matters. Debates rage hot about which variant is the best buy for someone, but as we are all aware, one opinion doesn’t suit everyone. Here, we compare the specs and facts about both the variants to check which one is better at what, thus objectively checking which one variant is better for you in our Maruti Ertiga VXi vs ZXi comparison

2. Maruti Ertiga VXi vs ZXi Dimensions: Is one larger than the other?

Maruti Ertiga Side Profile

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is quite a compact vehicle, but it doesn’t fall into the sub-4-metre category. The length is 4.4 metres, big enough to (barely) accommodate 7 seats inside without being too big to handle in traffic. The dimensions mentioned below are the same for both the ‘VXi’ and ‘ZXi’ trims, although the kerb weight is also different.

3. Maruti Ertiga VXi vs ZXi Design: Is there a Visual Difference?

Exterior Design Comparison

It’s quite difficult to distinguish between the two trims at a single glance. That said, there are some pretty solid differences in details between the two. Firstly, the ZXi trim comes with fog lamps but the VXi doesn’t. You get chrome-plated door handles and alloy wheels on the ZXi trim, whereas the VXi variant comes with body-coloured door handles.

Interior Design Comparison

If there were a few differences on the outside of the car, there are even fewer on the inside. The biggest difference is the presence of an infotainment system in the ZXi variant and a centre armrest in the front row. The VXi trim only offers a Radio/CD Player. Also, ZXi has wood inserts on the dashboard and door panels. The VXi has a simple cabin with a dual-tone colour scheme and no wood finish. Both variants come with fabric seats. Hence, the higher trim becomes the clear winner of this part of our Maruti Ertiga VXi vs ZXi comparison.

4. Maruti Ertiga VXi vs ZXi Features: Which is more convenient?

Safety features comparison

There isn’t any difference in terms of safety equipment between the two trims of the Maruti Ertiga. Both the variants come with dual front airbags, antilock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution with brake assist, and ISOFIX child-seat mounts. The only extra pieces of equipment on offer in the ZXi are the fog lamps.

Comfort features comparison

There are a few comfort features that the ZXi offers over the VXi. The first one is, as already mentioned above, the infotainment system. The ZXi trim gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. You also get keyless entry, push-button start, and adjustable driver seat, along with a rear-windscreen wiper and defogger.

5. Maruti Ertiga VXi vs ZXi Engine: Is There a Difference in Performance?

Maruti Ertiga Driving

Both the ‘VXi’ and ‘ZXi’ trims are powered by the same 1.5-litre K15 Smart Hybrid engine that also powers the Ciaz sedan and XL6 premium MPV. That engine is good for 104PS and 138Nm of max power and peak torque. There is a choice of either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox.

6. Maruti Ertiga VXi vs ZXi Price: Which Trim is Cheaper?

Maruti Ertiga Dashboard

Of course, the ‘VXi’ variant will be cheaper than the ‘ZXi’ variant, but things aren’t really that simple. When you consider the automatic gearbox variants of these two trims as well, there is a huge bump in price. A ‘VXi’ automatic is more expensive than the ‘ZXi’ manual version and that too by a noticeable margin. Apart from that, there is also a factory-fitted CNG kit on offer on the VXi trim. If your daily running is quite high, you’d be better off with a CNG kit onboard.

8. Verdict: Which Trim is Worth Buying – Maruti Ertiga VXi vs ZXi

Maruti Ertiga IndianAuto

Finally, we reach the verdict, but there isn’t a straight, simple answer to present here. Now, if you went through the above-described difference and thought that the VXi has adequate features on its own, then go get the VXi and save yourself a lot of bucks. Also, you can get a factory-fitted CNG kit in the VXi variant, a boon for mileage-minded people. If, however, you love to pamper yourself with all the little bits of luxury you can find, then you should definitely get the ZXi trim. Honestly, if it was our money, IndianAuto would opt for the more expensive trim in our Maruti Ertiga VXi vs ZXi comparison here.
