BMW M8 and 8-series gran coupe have been spotted in India. The cars are expected to launch in the Indian car market later this year, probably near the mid-year mark.

BMW 8-Series  was revealed last year and has been on sale in the European markets since. The 8 Series is available in three body styles- a two-door Coupe, and two-door Convertible, and a four-door Gran Coupe. There are sportier 'M' versions of each as well, and a full-blown M8 as well, just to add a little touch of exotica to the already-exotic Bimmer. The Coupe and Convertible models were spied earlier in India, and now it seems that BMW will soon be launching their GT car in India.

In the spy images, the vehicles wear minimal camouflage. The dramatic silhouette that dips toward the front end of the vehicle can be easily figured out. The steeply raking roofline adds curviness and attractiveness to the design. However, it might limit the headroom for the occupants. Currently, there is a small possibility that BMW India might only launch the 8-series Gran Coupe and the M8 Coupe in India. That, however, cannot be confirmed at this point. Indian auto market is tumbling through a rough time right now, and so carmakers are treading lightly at the moment.

The 8-series Gran Coupe on sale in India will be the 840i, powered by a 3.0-litre, naturally aspirated, inline-6 petrol engine. It is capable of generating maximum power of 335 PS and peak torque of 500 Nm. As for the M8, it will sport a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol unit. This high-performance engine can deliver a maximum power of 625 PS and a peak torque of 750 Nm. With the assistance of the M Driver package, the M Variant, or BMW M8, as it's called, can clock the top speed of 305 kmph. The car can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds. An 8-speed automatic transmission and a 'xDrive' AWD system are offered as standard features on the 8-series as well as the M8.

The 8-series range will sit above the 7-series luxury limo range in BMW's India line-up, thus becoming the new flagship of the German brand. Launch of the BMW M8 in India is expected to happen this year, although it might be delayed by the current coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak. BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe will challenge the likes of Mercedes Benz CLS and Porsche Panamera. On the other hand, the M8 will lock horns with Mercedes AMG GT and Jaguar F-Type. Visit IndianAuto for more news and other interesting automotive content.
