It is widely known that Ford is working on a C-SUV which will be based on the next-gen Mahindra XUV500. More than just a rebadged version, the new C SUV will have a distinguished identity.
With the Ford EcoSport, Ford has paved the way for the compact SUV space to grow in the Indian market. However, since the car has started to lose its appeal to the customers, Ford feels the pulse to step up its game. The American car manufacturer has formed a partnership with Mahindra, a leading utility vehicle manufacturer in India for its upcoming vehicles. One of the vehicles developed under this joint venture is the new Ford C SUV based on the Mahindra XUV500.
Ford C-SUV is scheduled to go on sale in 2022 after the second-gen XUV500 is launched
Ford C SUV is likely to take on the new monocoque platform which will be used on the second-gen Mahindra XUV500. The new-gen Mahindra XUV500 will arrive next year while the Ford C SUV will be launched in the following year. Codenamed Ford W605, the new C-segment SUV was planned to come before 2022. However, due to the global health crisis, the launch date is moved to 2022.
Apart from the shared platform, the new Ford C-SUV and new-gen Mahindra XUV500 also have a lot in common. To lower the manufacturing cost, Ford and Mahindra will share components and technologies with each other. However, Ford assures that its new SUV will not be a mere rebadged version of the XUV500. Instead, Ford’s C-segment SUV will be developed with its individual characteristics and in line with Ford’s global design language.
