The Ford EcoSport Active is a sportier version of the regular variant. Ford has confirmed the launch of the EcoSport Active in Europe on November 6.

The Ford EcoSport has been one of the popular compact SUVs in the international market for quite a long time now. It is also the brand’s top sales gainer in India despite getting just a few facelifts over the years. However, there’s no denying the fact that the introduction of modern compact crossovers has made a toll on the sales of the EcoSport in the global markets. In a bid to curb this problem, Ford is set to introduce a new more rugged version of the EcoSport for the European market, under the name of Ford EcoSport Active. Recently, the Ford EcoSport Active has been leaked ahead of its launch scheduled on November 6.

As per the leaked images, the upcoming Ford EcoSport Active wears mild off-road-ish clothing on the outside and receives some updates under the bonnet, giving it a sportier proposition. The new crossover gets thick black cladding on the wheel arches, adding to its ruggedness. The same effect comes from the front and rear faux skid plates.

The new multi-spoke alloy wheels look more polished. The lower section was darkened while windows are tinted. The blacked-out elements also make it to the grille, in place of the regular chrome treatments. Interestingly, we couldn’t see the tailgate-mounted spare wheel on the Ford Ecosport Active.

The interior of the EcoSport Active is rather similar to that of the regular car, apart from the “Active” branding embroidered on the upholstery. The upcoming Ford EcoSport Active is likely to borrow the same equipment list from the standard vehicle, including an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, automatic climate control, engine start push-button and many more.

On the mechanical front, the Ford EcoSport Active will draw the power from a standard 1.0-litre Ecoboost turbo-petrol engine option that is capable of producing 125 PS of max power and 175 Nm of peak torque. This mill will be available with a 6-speed MT as standard. In some select markets, the EcoSport Active can be had with a 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated engine good for 166 PS of power and 202 Nm of torque.

As for India, it’s highly unlikely that the Ford EcoSport Active would come to the Indian space, given the fact that Ford already sells the all-black options of the EcoSport, namely S and Thunder variants for the Indian buyers. The American company is developing the next-gen Ford EcoSport which is expected to debut globally in 2022.
