To contend in the sub-Rs. 10 lakh MPV space, Tata Motors could introduce a 7-seater version of the upcoming HBX micro-SUV to rival the likes of Maruti XL6. Here's how it could look like.

Tata HBX in its near-production concept form was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo earlier this year. The micro-SUV is underpinned by the Alfa-arc platform as the Altroz. In comparison to the Altroz, the HBX sits higher off the ground, and it is also a taller car. Thus, it offers a lot more headroom and ease of ingress and egress in comparison to the Altroz. In our short experience with the HBX during the 2020 Auto Expo, we could make out that it offers plenty of space on the inside. Also, if stretched a bit, a 3rd-row can be squeezed in the HBX. In such a state, it will be a potent rival to the Maruti XL6. However, we came across a digital rendering of the 7-seater HBX that puts our imaginary thoughts into a visual perspective.

7-Seater Tata HBX Rendered In Vector Drawing, Will Rival Maruti XL6

This vector drawing isn’t the clearest iteration of our thoughts, but it gets the job done. This vector drawing has been created by DK Vector, and we came across it via the designer’s Instagram profile. It can be seen that the HBX in the drawing remains identical to the concept form up till the B-pillar. After which, the HBX has been stretched a bit. As a result, it now boasts of a longer wheelbase and an incremented length. Likewise, the rear quarter glass seen on the HBX concept has grown up a bit in dimensions. But, this helps in increasing the glass area for the 3rd-row and lets more light enter the cabin.

Talking of the HBX concept, it is likely to be launched with the same 1.2L Revotron motor as the Altroz and lesser Tiago. However, Tata Motors is tight-lipped about the engine options that will be offered on the HBX. If the 7-seater version of the micro-SUV reaches the production line, it will most likely be offered with a set of powerful engine options. Expect the Nexon-derived 1.2L turbo-petrol and 1.5L turbo-diesel engines to be a part of the package. Talking of its pricing, expect the 7-seater HBX to carry a starting price of around Rs. 7.50 lakh.
