Citroen will enter the Indian auto market with its quirky and unique SUV, the C5 Aircross. Today we have this specs, features, and powertrain comparison of the C5 Aircross against the Hyundai Tucson.

Citroen has just revealed the maiden product it will launch in the Indian market, the C5 Aircross which is expected to launch next month in March. It will be entering the Indian market as a CKD import for now. The French automaker currently has just 10 showrooms across India and aims to add more of their ‘La Maison Citroen’ showrooms in the near future. The C5 Aircross’ immediate rivals are going to the Hyundai Tucson and the Jeep Compass which also just received a mid-life facelift. Today we have this specs, powertrain, and features comparison between the new Citroen C5 Aircross and Hyundai Tucson.

Visually, the Citroen C5 Aircross looks fresh with its quirky design details like a pair of vertically-split headlamps which neatly integrate into the front grille. The Citroen logo is integrated into the grille as well while over to the side and rear, it gets machine-cut 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, and LED taillights. The Hyundai Tucson looks a little older compared to the C5 but it still has a strong road presence with its large headlights, cascading front grille, and 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. Hyundai has already launched the next-generation Tucson in a few international markets, and it may be on its way to India soon.

Over to the interior, the quirky styling of the Citroen C5 Aircross is carried inside with a neatly laid-out dashboard with square-ish AC vents while the cabin gets a dark theme. There is an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system while the instrument cluster is a fully digital 12.3-inch unit. It gets leather seats with a unique modular design which gets a reclining function for the second row as well. Other features in the C5 Aircross include push-button start/stop, ambient cabin lighting, gesture-operated tailgate, power-operated and heated ORVMs, panoramic sunroof, hands-free parking, power-adjustable driver seat, auto-dimming IRVM, e-parking brake, and dual-zone climate control.

The Hyundai Tucson’s interior follows a different philosophy with its dashboard slightly angled towards the driver. There’s an 8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system while the instrument cluster has analogue dials with a MID in the centre. Other features in the Tucson include power-adjustable driver and front passenger seat, auto-dimming IRVM, power-operated and heated ORVMs, reclining second-row seats, hands-free tailgate, dual-zone climate control, push-button start/stop, e-parking brake, and a panoramic sunroof. The Tucson also gets Hyundai’s Blue Link connected car tech, which adds further convenience. The interior also gets a lot of soft-touch surfaces, which adds to the premium feel though the design looks older than the C5 Aircross.

Powertrain wise, the Citroen C5 Aircross comes with a 2-litre turbo-diesel engine which makes 177 PS/400 Nm of peak power and torque and is mated to an 8-speed gearbox. The Hyundai Tucson comes with the choice of petrol and diesel options. The former is a 2-litrre N/A unit which makes 152 PS/192 of max power and torque while the latter is a 2-litre turbo-diesel churning out max power and torque figures of 184 PS/400 Nm respectively. The petrol engine is paired to a 6-speed automatic only while the oil burner gets an 8-speed automatic. The diesel also has an all-wheel-drive variant as an option.

Prices for the Hyundai Tucson currently range from Rs 22.55 lakh – Rs 27.33 lakh. Even though it is a solid choice, it is starting to show its age and the all-new model can’t come sooner. Prices for the Citroen C5 Aircross are yet to be revealed, though reports suggest it will be priced around Rs 30 lakh. When it is launched, The C5 Aircross with its quirky design will be fresh and intriguing choice in the segment. All prices mentioned are ex-showroom.
