A Kia Motors India employee apparently got to drive the Kia Sonet Diesel AT in city as well as highway and he claims to have achieved up to 21 kmpl

Earlier today, we brought to you brochure scans of what can be termed as the most awaited new car of the year. Well, the wait is surely nearing its end as the carmaker is expected to introduce the new model early next month. However, ahead of the official launch, we have stumbled upon yet another piece of information of the upcoming compact SUV. A user of Facebook, who has been lucky enough to not only get his hands on the Kia Sonet but also take it for a long spin, has revealed that the Diesel-AT variant has offered him with a mileage of 18.7 kmpl in city and 21 kmpl on highway.

With this, Rajesh Paridala from Vizag seems to have become the first-ever Indian driver to have sampled the production-spec Kia Sonet not only in the city but also on a highway. Rajesh claims to be professionally associated with Kia Motors India, though we couldn't establish the exact relation between him and the company. Whatever the relation, it does look like he has got a chance to drive an unregistered Kia Sonet GT Line on a well-paved highway.

It must be noted here that brochure scans have revealed that the Kia Sonet will hit the showrooms in four engine variants - 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol, 1.0-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol, 1.5-litre FGT diesel and 1.5-litre VGT diesel. The base petrol motor outputs 83 PS and 115 Nm, and will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol offers 120 PS and 172 Nm. It will be available with 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT transmission options. The 1.5-litre diesel offers 100 PS/240 Nm with an FGT and 115 PS/250 Nm with a VGT. While the former will come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, the latter will be available with a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

As we've been saying, the Kia Sonet, akin to the Seltos, will be available in two styling lines - Tech Line and GT Line. The latter will be available with 1.0-litre Turbo and 1.5-litre diesel engine options. The GT Line models will offer some styling enhancements in the form of red accents, and even some extra features like multiple drive-modes and traction control modes.
