MG Hector Vs Hyundai Creta, Who’s Faster To 100 KMPH?

In the pool of C-segment SUVs, MG Hector and Hyundai Creta are some of the famous names in the Indian car market. The Hector with its fast climb on the sales chart carved a niche for the Chinese-owned British car brand – MG in India. The situation is similar for the 2020 Hyundai Creta as well. In a period of 3 months from launch, it managed to grab the title of the highest-selling car in the country for May 2020 and highest-selling SUV in the country for June 2020. But, how fast are these cars on roads? We got the answer for you. As we got out hands on both the cars, our first intention was to check how long these C-segment SUVs take to reach the 100 kmph mark from a standstill.

In total, we made 3 attempts to ensure that the results obtained were correct to the second decimal places. These test runs were conducted with 2 occupants in the cabin along with camera gear to depict real-world conditions. Also, both of these cars were similarly spec’d as they had a diesel engine coupled with a manual gearbox. One on the Creta, it was a 1.5L turbocharged diesel unit that is capable of putting out a peak power output of 115 PS and max torque of 250 Nm. The Hector, on the other hand, gets an FCA-sourced 2.0L MultiJet diesel that is designed to churn out a rated power and torque output of 170 PS and 350 Nm, respectively.

Coming back to the clocks, the Hector reached the 100 kmph mark in 13.55 seconds, while Creta with its lightweight, managed to do so in just 12.83 seconds. In the next attempt, the Creta took the lead by 0.07 seconds, and managing 0-100 kmph timing of 12.80 seconds, however, the Hector did so in 12.87 seconds. In the final attempt, the cars and the driver had the advantage of being familiar with what were they up to. Therefore, Creta reached the tonne mark in 12.23 seconds followed by the Hector taking 12.83 seconds. These were the fastest these cars could go. We would add that the Hector here has an advantage of outright power and torque figures, but the lesser kerb weight of Creta helped it win here.
