The upcoming 2020 Toyota Yaris has recently been spotted without camouflage at the Toyota Technical Centre Shimoyama in Toyota, prior to its debut at the forthcoming Tokyo Motor Show.

The latest spy images of the new-gen Toyota Yaris are out and they indicate that the all-new Yaris will receive a complete update when it comes to its exterior design. The car will be equipped with a new grille which is located between a pair of newly-designed LED headlights. In the side profile, its flared wheel arches contribute to the vehicle’s aggressive and sporty appearance.

Underpinned by the GA-B platform, the new Yaris will measure bigger in length, width but shorter in height and with a lower ground clearance than the current model. For better driving dynamics, Toyota has ainmed to give the car a lower gravity centre.

The new Toyota Yaris will come with a a variety of exterior updates over the current model.

The new Toyota Yaris, in all likelihood, will be powered by Toyota’s 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol unit. The vehicle will be also available with a hybrid variant which will utilize a 1.5-litre petrol motor combined with a 1LM electric motor for better power and efficiency.

The vehicle will be available with two motor options including a hybrid variant

The car will be aimed at customers in developed markets like Japan and a host of European countries as well. The platform supporting the new Yaris will not be localized for India, as a result of extremely high price that it will command. Therefore, we can expect that the Japanese auto manufacturer is not going to bring the new Yaris to India any time soon.

The current India-spec Yaris comes as a sedan and gets a 1.5-litre petrol unit which can deliver a maximum power of 108 PS and a peak torque of 140 Nm. The transmission duties are implemented by a 6-speed MT or a CVT across all the variants. In India, the Yaris competes against the Honda City, the Maruti Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna. Although the power output of the Yaris is less than that of the Hyundai Verna and the Honda City, Toyota's mid-spec sedan does not seem to be underpowered at all.
