Audi is still considering expanding its Indian line-up with the introduction of Audi Q2. The launch is expected to take place by the end of 2020 or at the beginning of 2021.

Audi has been mulling over with the idea of bringing the new entry-level SUV, the Audi Q2 cross the Indian borders for quite some time now. In the latest movement, the four-ringed brand has revealed that the Audi Q2 is still under consideration for the Indian market.

The entry-level SUV, the Audi Q2 is currently the smallest vehicle in Audi's entire products range.

First unveiled to the world in 2016, the Audi Q2 is currently the most compact SUV in the luxury automaker’s products line-up. The Audi Q2 is built on the MQB platform and competed against the like of BMW X2 in the international markets. Audi is taking the Q2 SUV into consideration for India as a plan to leverage the easier import norms in the country.

The Audi Q2 is based on the MQB platform and directly rivals the like of BMW X2 in the global markets.

That being said, it could be imported to India as a low-volume product that might not have to come under local homologation. Remember, in September 2018, the Indian government has already relaxed the import regulations and permitted the companies to import as many as 2500 CBU/ CKD units annually without being homologated irrespective of their engine capacity and Freight on Board (FOB) value. Therefore, manufacturers now can contemplate testing market a product before jumping on the final decision on homologating or locally assembling it.

So there’s a possibility that the facelifted Audi Q2 could directly make its entry into India sooner or later, perhaps by the year-end of 2020 or at the dawn of 2021. It also remains to be seen when the new generation of the Audi Q3, A6, A7 and A8 reach our shores, but the opportunities are enormous. While the Audi A4 has already received a makeover globally, it’s still the original model that goes on sale in our country.
