Maruti Suzuki decided to phase out all of its diesel cars from the lineup in India and the carmaker loses out the title of the best mileage car of India to the BS6 Hyundai Aura diesel. However, India’s largest carmaker quickly comes back with a 1.2-litre Dual-Jet VVT engine introduced in the Dzire facelift, which, albeit being a petrol, scales very high in terms of fuel mileage. In other words, the Dzire is one of the least gas-guzzling Maruti Suzuki cars in the Indian space.

The 2020 Maruti Dzie facelift sees the entrance of a 1.2-litre K12C gasoline engine that comes in place of the outgoing 1.2-litre K12B unit. Paired with either a 5-speed MT or an AMT option, this mill is capable of making 90 PS of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. While the previous Maruti Dzire was already among the most fuel-economical cars of India from across the segments, the Dzire facelift does just the same with the figure standing at 24.12 km per litres (automatic variants).

2. Maruti Baleno

  • Price: Rs 5.63 - 8.96 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

  • Fuel Mileage: 23.87 kmpl - Petrol MT, 19.56 kmpl -Petrol AT

With the ARAI-rated fuel economy rating of 23.87 kmpl, the Maruti Baleno premium hatchback takes the second spot in top best mileage BS6 Maruti Suzuki cars in India. Maruti Suzuki launched the BS6 Baleno petrol in India in 2019, going petrol-only in its heart alongside the discontinuation of the diesel one.

The powertrain system of the Baleno comprises of a 1.2-litre engine that comes with a mild-hybrid system. As rated by ARAI, the Maruti Baleno returns a high level of fuel efficiency with 23.87 kmpl for the manual versions and 19.56 kmpl for the automatic variants.

The icing on the cake here is the factory-fit CNG variant that gains an excellent mileage of 32.52 km/kg.

Maruti S-Presso might be the newcomer to the game here but it plays second fiddle to none in the best fuel-efficient cars rankings. The typically small crossover-ish hatchback by Maruti Suzuki obtains a peppy yet frugal engine while being well-priced for what it offers. Launched at an introductory price of Rs 3.69 Lakh, the Maruti S-Presso shares its heart with the WagonR, be it a 68 HP 1.0-litre petrol engine option. No surprise, the S-Presso attains similar ARAI-rated fuel mileage figures as its older sibling.
