Maruti Ertiga Electric Might Be Launched In India Soon

Apart from the Maruti WagonR EV, the Maruti Ertiga EV could be the company's second electric offering for India. The electric MPV is said to enter the market soon.

As we know, Maruti Suzuki’s foray into the electric vehicles segment will be the WagonR EV. The electric iteration of the tallboy hatchback was said to launch in India in early 2020 but its market entry has been pushed back. According to some recent reports, the Maruti Ertiga EV could be the brand’s second electric product for India. The power MPV is slated to come to us post of the launch of the electric WagonR.

Details are still sketchy at present, but it is reported that the new upcoming Ertiga EV could be retailed under a new brand in the country. With this strategy along with the Indian Government’s push for EVs, the Indo-Japanese automaker could carve out a niche for itself in the world of electrified vehicles. Also, there is a high possibility that the country’s largest-selling auto company would turn India into a large hub for developing global electric cars that would make their ways in different areas of the world.

The all-new Ertiga EV could be launched in India after the launch of the electric hatchback.

Some new reports also suggest that the company has chosen Maruti Ertiga MPV and the Ciaz sedan to study the feasibility of the electric-powered version of these products. After months of researching, the MPV has been picked up as a go-ahead development of the carmaker’s second EV.

Speaking about the Maruti WagonR EV, the all-new electric hatchback is expected to do a range of more than 130 kilometres. It takes the hatchback about 7 hours to get fully charged through the standard AC charging and around 1 hour to get 80% charged via the DC fast-charging system.

The electric MPV is said to be sold under a new brand in the country.

The new Maruti Suzuki electric vehicles will come under the Government’s FAME II scheme and also benefit from the state subsidies. Price of the WagonR EV is estimated at around Rs 7 Lakh mark while that of the Ertiga EV is yet to be known.

Back to the regular Ertiga, the MPV is still among the most-selling MPV in the segment. Recently, the company introduced the premium version of the Ertiga, named Maruti XL6 which has been selling in good numbers from the time of launch as well.
