When Jeep first set its foot in the Indian space, the American SUV maker couldn’t achieve what we call the “dream start”. With the Wrangler being the brand’s maiden car in the country, Jeep witnessed quite a few takers in India, courtesy of its decent price at that time. It’s until the arrival of Jeep Compass that the company managed to cement a foothold in a price-sensitive market like India.
Despite the poor sales in the new car market, the Jeep Wrangler still receives much respect and holds a special place in our hearts, actually. The Jeep Wrangler is a capable off-road-spec SUV that almost every off-road enthusiasts swear by and no wonder, it becomes a popular car that receives many brilliant mod jobs. Let’s get back to the old days and look at this first modified Jeep Wrangler in India.
What has been modified in the Jeep Wrangler?
The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited comes with a host of engine options in the international market. However, in India, the Jeep Wrangler gets one petrol and one diesel engine option only. The model featured here is powered by a 2.8-litre engine making 197 BHP of power and 460 Nm of torque. In its modified avatar, the SUV didn’t get any change to the engine for power output increase.
In terms of look, the fenders of the modified Jeep Wrangler have been removed, making a place for the custom units. The SUV also sits on larger black-finished rims shod with off-road spec tyres. It also sports a new custom off-road suspension to enhance its off-road capabilities. Do note that there are a lot of aftermarket suspension options for the Wrangler since the car is best known for its off-road driving prowess.
The front end of the modified Jeep Wranger is kitted out with an off-road bumper that houses a winch and a bull guard with two auxiliary lights on it. The big round headlamps have been blacked out to give the modified car a more prominent look. At the rear, the modified Jeep Wrangler has given all-new LED tail lamps and a jerry can as well. Like the front, the original rear bumper has been replaced by an off-road unit.
What’s interesting about the modified Wrangler is that it can be transformed into an open-top vehicle. All the doors and roof panels of the car are now removable, the interiors can be hosed down as well, thus helping with the off-roading feel.
