Next-Gen Mahindra Thar Digitally Imagined As A 4-Door SUV

Mahindra & Mahindra has been road testing the next-gen Thar for quite some time now, and the vehicle is expected to be launched in the Indian market very soon. The anticipation for the vehicle is quite high, and fans have been waiting to hear the news of every little detail that can be confirmed. We don’t have any detail to confirm though, sadly. What we have here is a digitally rendered image of the Mahindra Thar 4-door SUV.

The picture you see here has been created by Shoeb R Kalania of IndianAutosBlog. IAB, some readers might recall, is the sister publication of IndianAuto. In this image, we see that the next-generation model of the Mahindra Thar bears an uncanny resemblance to the Jeep Wrangler. The front end features a pair of round headlamps and a seven-slat grille. The front bumper is raised quite high, and the design of it is nicely integrated into the plastic cladding on the sides.

Speaking of the side profile, you’ll notice that this Mahindra Thar 4-door SUV wears a five-spoke alloy wheel and high profile dual-purpose tyres. You’ll also notice that the hinges for the doors are exposed, which gives this vehicle a rugged look. The rear hind quarter and the roof of the car have been blacked out. This dual-tone treatment looks good against the red exterior paint on the rest of the car. The ORVMs are also blacked out and are quite large in comparison to many other passenger vehicles. Overall, we love this design and hope the 2-door version of the new Mahindra Thar looks as impressive as this one.

According to recent reports, Mahindra will be introducing two engine options with the new generation Thar. One will be a 2.2-litre, inline-4, turbocharged diesel engine, while the other will be a 1.5-litre, inline-4, turbocharged petrol engine. The former will generate around 150 PS, while the latter is good for 165 PS. We expect a 6-speed manual transmission to come as standard, and a 6-speed automatic gearbox will be offered as an option. The new Mahindra Thar is expected to be launched in August.
